Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is being criticized after she called President Donald Trump’s plan to fight crime in Washington, D.C., “unhinged,” per a report on Fox News.

Clinton posted on X Monday after Trump announced the federalization of the nation’s capital to fight crime occurring there.

“As you listen to an unhinged Trump try to justify deploying the National Guard in DC, here’s reality,” Clinton wrote. “Violent crime in DC is at a 30-year low.”

Her post included a Department of Justice press release, dated Jan. 3, announcing, “Total violent crime for 2024 in the District of Columbia is down 35% from 2023 and is the lowest it has been in over 30 years.”

As soon as Clinton hit “post,” people, insisting crime is as issue in Washington, lambasted her on social media.

White House deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson called Clinton “a massive liar.”

“On top of being a big-time loser, you’re also a massive liar,” she wrote. She included a graphic of an article stating the D.C. police commander was suspended for allegedly altering crime data.

“If Hillary Clinton thinks DC is safe, she should go move to Anacostia or Navy Yard,” conservative communicator Steve Guest wrote.

She is not the only Democrat receiving backlash.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) posted Trump had “no basis” to take over Washington’s police.

“Violent crime in Washington, D.C. is at a thirty-year low,” he posted. “Donald Trump has no basis to take over the local police department. And zero credibility on the issue of law and order. Get lost.”

As with Clinton, Jeffries was vilified on social media.

“A selection of headlines in our nation’s capital this month,” NRCC deputy executive director Jack Pandol wrote as he included headlines of recent violent crime in DC.

“Why do Democrats always take up for thugs, violent criminals, and illegals over law abiding citizens?”

Outkick founder Clay Travis called the Democratic response “bonkers.”

“Democrats are lining up to oppose crime being lower in DC,” Travis posted. “It’s bonkers.”

“Democrats like Jeffries would rather preserve dangerous cities than admit their policies fail,” GOP Congressman William Timmons posted on X.

In his press conference on Monday, Trump announced he was federalizing the D.C. police department.

“The murder rate in Washington today is higher than that of Bogota, Colombia, Mexico City, some of the places that you hear about as being the worst places on Earth, much higher,” Trump said. “This is much higher. The number of car thefts has doubled over the past five years, and the number of carjackings has more than tripled. Murders in 2023 reached the highest rate, probably ever. They say 25 years, but they don’t know what that means because it just goes back 25 years can’t be worse.”

Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) was not completely on board with Trump’s plan, per The Washington Post.

“The fact that we have more law enforcement presence in neighborhoods … you know, that may be positive,” Bowser said, adding the takeover was “unsettling and unprecedented.”

“While this action today is unsettling and unprecedented, I can’t say that given some of the rhetoric of the past, that we’re totally surprised,” Bowser said, according to Politico. “I can say to D.C. residents that we will continue to operate our government in a way that makes you proud.”
