A former member of Houstonâs Food Insecurity Board was fired after she posted a racially tinged video mocking victims of the flooding over the July 4 weekend.
Flash flooding along the Guadalupe River in Texas killed at least 82 people, including over two dozen children who were attending Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian camp located near Kerrville, Texas. Sade Perkins, who was appointed to the board in 2023 by then-Democratic Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston, posted the video on her TikTok account, sades_world8, before she made it private. âI know Iâm probably gonna get cancelled for this, but Camp Mystic is a whites-only girlsâ Christian camp. They donât even have a token Asian, they donât have a token black person. It is a all-white, white-only conservative Christian camp,â Perkins said in the video. âIf you ainât white, you ainât right. You ainât getting anywhere, you goin,â period. And I think that context needs to be said in this matter.â
âItâs not to say that we donât want the girls to be found, whatever girls that are missing or whatever right now, but you best believe, especially in todayâs political climate, if this were a group of Hispanic girls â especially with them being in east Texas, it should be most likely Hispanic â if this were a group of Hispanic girls out there, this would not begin this type of coverage that theyâre getting, no one would give a fuck, and all these white people, the parents of these little girls would be saying things like, âThey need to be deported, they shouldnât have been here in the first place,â and yadda-yadda-yadda,â Perkins continued.
Democratic Mayor John Whitmire of Houston said that Perkins would not be reappointed, citing her comments.
âMayor John Whitmire will not reappoint her and is taking immediate steps to remove her permanently from the board,â the mayorâs office told Fox News in a statement.
Perkins then claimed that the parents of the children would have been demanding that Hispanic children be deported before claiming that the camp was an âall-white, whites-only enclave.â
âBefore yâall comment me, before yâall start leaving hate comments on my page about, oh, these are just kids and they donât know no better, the parents of these children who are choosing â and it is a choice in 2025, it is definitely a freaking choice to go into east goddamn Texas and to make a all-white enclave, exclusionary, just for white people,â Perkins continued. âWith all the black people in east Texas, with all the Hispanic people in east Texas, somehow, some way, you have carved out an all-white, whites-only enclave in east Texas for your white children. Yeah, I have a problem with that. I have a big problem with that.â
âOnce again, this is no shade to the girls, I hope they all get found, but once again, yâall have to understand the climate that weâre living in. They want you to have sympathy for these people,â Perkins said. âThey want you to get out of your bed and to come out of your home and to go find these people and to donate your money to go find these people. Meanwhile, they are deporting your family members. Meanwhile, theyâre setting up concentration camps and prisons for your family members. And I need yâall to keep that in mind before yâall get out there and put on the rain boots and go find these little girls.â
