The La Salle County Republican Central Committee overwhelmingly voted to censure Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) over his vote to impeach former President Donald Trump.
âThe censure disavows Rep. Kinzinger for acting contrary to the values of the La Salle County Republican Central Committee,â a press release said.
It also noted members complained Kinzinger has not met with the committee in over six years.
According to release, the resolution passed with 88% of the committee voting yes.
It claims Kinzingerâs actions have unleashed harsh criticism upon the committee.
âThe La Salle County Republicans have received hundreds upon hundreds of emails, text messages and phone calls from our county and beyond expressing their frustration and a lot more with Congressman Kinzingerâs actions and statements the past few months,â committee chair Larry Smith said in a statement.
He continued, âMany have been very direct that their support for the Republican Party is over if Congressman Kinzingerâs behavior isnât addressed.â

Smith went on to explain, âThough our Central Committee is not noted for political activism and we have always supported Republicans at every level, Congressman Kinzingerâs actions and statements against former President Trump have opened a Pandoraâs Box of criticism.â
During an episode of CNNâs âThe Axe Filesâ podcast last week, Kinzinger acknowledged voting to impeach Trump could end his career, as IJR previously reported.
âI did it knowing full well it could very well be terminal to my career, but I also knew that I couldnât live with myself having, you know, try to just protect it and just felt like the one time I was called to do a really tough duty, I didnât do it,â Kinzinger said.
He has received support from other Republicans for speaking out against Trump, as IJR reported.
âThereâs also been a whole lot of outpouring from people that âthanks for saying it. Iâve heard it, even amongst my colleagues: âthanks for speaking up,'â Kinzinger said during an appearance on ABCâs âThe Viewâ on Wednesday.
