Democratic strategist James Carville during a Thursday podcast expressed disgust with the large number of Americans who voted for President-elect Donald Trump.

TrumpĀ clinched an election victory early Wednesday and had received nearly 73 million votes, or almost 51% of the total, as of Thursday morning, according to The Associated Press. Carville, on ā€œPolitics War Room,ā€ also said he is depressed over the country electing ā€œa felonious bigot,ā€ but that he will eventually ā€œsnap out of it.ā€

ā€œI just have to get over the fact that I’m 80 years old and I live in a country that has put a felonious bigot, who has no idea of what the world is like, is the most parochial, secular person that you could imagine,ā€ Carville said. ā€œAnd I don’t know what percent of this defeat is because we didn’t embrace the change message or we kept something too long — was there some flaw in our strategy, in our presentation? But at the end of the day, there’s still a lot of people that voted for this.ā€

ā€œAnd everything people in Texas knew about Ted Cruz, and the thing that hurts so bad, is Colin Allred is the very definition of a really fine person. So, I’m gonna just — I’ll have to reevaluate,ā€ he added. ā€œI’m sure I’ll come up with something to make me feel good again, but right now, today, it’s hard, I’ll be honest with you. And the hardest thing is that I look across this country, and tens of millions of people fell for this shit, and it’s just, it’s depressing, but I will snap out of it.ā€

Trump’s victory was fueled in part by increasedĀ support fromĀ HispanicĀ andĀ black men.

ā€œIt’s not hard to say there’ve been plenty of criminals, charlatans, conmen, traitors, scumbags — we’ve had all of that before. But I don’t — we’ve never had remotely — and people embracing and endorsing this is — it’s just, it’s sickening,ā€ Carville said. ā€œBut this guy got 50%, okay? They can make the argument Hitler never got 33. Okay, this is frightening that we would get here, and by the way, in 4% unemployment. Okay, I mean, I’m sorry.ā€

The Democratic strategist added that he is currently ā€œin a very, very dark tunnel.ā€

Carville on Wednesday attributed Harris’ loss to President Joe Biden’s ā€œlateā€ JulyĀ exit from the race, the vice president’s failure to distinguish herself from him and ā€œa sense of disorder.ā€ However, radio host Charlamagne Tha God asserted on Wednesday that economic factors and safety were major driving forces behind Trump’s victory, while also disputing the notion that he won solely based on bigotry.
