āTitanicā Director James Cameron denied rumors he was making a film about the OceanGateās Titan submersible that imploded, killing five passengers on board.
On Saturday, Cameron, 68, took to his Twitter page to clear the air in a viral tweet.
āI donāt respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now. Iām NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever be,ā he wrote.
This came after The Sun published a story claiming Cameron was approached by a streaming network to create the film.
āThe Titan disaster is already being looked at as a major series for one of the worldās biggest streamers ā and James is first choice for director,ā a source told the outlet.
The source added the tragedy āis a subject close to his heart.ā
āHe told the story of the Titanic so compassionately it feels like a natural step for him to take this on. Retracing the steps of those on board the Titan is a massive undertaking but there would be a lot of time, money and resources dedicated to it,ā they said.
On June 22, Cameron spoke to ABC News exclusively following the deaths of the submersible passengers on their way to see the Titanic wreckage.
He revealed he designed a submersible that can go āthree times deeper than Titanic.ā
āIām struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship and yet he steamed at full speed into an ice field on a moonless night and many people died as a result,ā Cameron said.
He added, āAnd for a very similar tragedy, where warnings went unheeded, to take place at the same exact site, with all the diving thatās going on all around the world, I think is just astonishing.ā
