Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett on âThe Breakfast Clubâ Friday justified calling President Donald Trump a âwannabe Hitlerâ following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Crockett called Trump, who has faced two assassination attempts, a âwannabe Hitlerâ during a July interview on MSNBC. During a discussion about Kirkâs assassination on âThe Breakfast Club,â she argued that Trump was responsible for violent rhetoric while absolving herself.
WATCH:
âeâve got to talk about like what it means when youâre running for president or youâre running for one of these higher offices and you go out there and you talk about beating people up,â Crockett said. âYou go out there and you say things like, âI could shoot somebody in the middle of the street in New York and I could still win.ââ
âThat is next level. Me disagreeing with you, me calling you a wannabe Hitler, all those things are like not necessarily saying âGo out and hurt somebody.â But when youâre literally telling people at rallies, âYeah, beat him upâ and that kind of stuff, like you are promoting like a culture of violence,â she added. âSo, we need to talk about like what it looks like when you donât promote a culture of violence.â
Crockett also claimed on âAmerican Fever Dream,â in May that Republicans were fundamentally âviolentâ while dismissing left-wing extremism.
ânherently in like who you are, yâall are violent. And most of your violence has to do with people thatâs got a little bit of melanin. But nevertheless, like, yâall are a violent group,â she continued. âLike, you attract violent actors. And like, Iâm sorry, I know they tried to make Black Lives Matter out to be the most violent â âOh, what about Black Lives Matter?â No, no, no. So thatâs the thing â like, they try to pretend like that.â
Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday while speaking to a large audience of students at a Utah Valley University (UVU) event. Authorities found anti-fascist messages on the ammunition from the rifle they recovered near the assassination, Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said at a Friday press conference.
The message included phrases like âHey fascist! Catch!â and âIf you read this you are gay LMAO,â according to Cox. The individual accused of murdering Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, Cox announced at the press conference.
Trump called out divisive left-wing rhetoric hours after the assassination.
âFor years, those on the American left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the worldâs worst mass murderers and criminals,â the president said. âThis kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that weâre seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.â
