Vice President Kamala Harrisā husband, Doug Emhoff, has advice for Democrats if President Joe Biden does not decide to run again in 2024.
Politico reported that Emhoff told Democrats the party āmust rallyā around his wife if Biden does not run.
According to the outlet, the talk coming from Emhoff ācauses eye-rolling in the West Wing, where officials believe Harris is on stronger footing now than she was in her first year but remain skeptical about her viability in 2024.ā
One Democrat told Politico, āThe next question weāll get after saying we donāt want Biden is: āDo you want Kamala?'ā
Biden previously indicated he plans to run for reelection.
Still, during an interview on ā60 Minutesā in September, Biden explained that āit remains to be seenā whether it was a āfirm decisionā to run again.
The Washington Post noted the outlet has reported Biden and the first lady have been holding meetings with advisers since September to āprepare for a potential reelection campaign.ā
The president will turn 80 years old this month.
Biden commented on his age during a conversation with radio host Willie Moore Jr. that aired Monday.
āWhat would 80-year-old Joe tell 50-year-old Joe in this moment?ā Moore Jr. asked.
The president replied, āThat Iām still 50 ā thatās the first thing Iād tell him. You think Iām kidding. Iām not kidding. Thatās number one.ā
He added, āNumber two, I canāt even say that number, 80, you know. But Iām serious, I no more feel that than I can get out from behind this desk and fly.ā
USA Today pointed out, throughout the midterm campaigns, some Democrats have come out and publicly questioned whether Biden should run for reelection.
Some skeptics pointed to Bidenās age while others cited different political issues.
