During her previous tenure as a political commentator, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany made a number of comments about the 2016 election praising Democratic nominee Joe Biden and calling him āa man of the people.ā
The comments were first unearthed by CNN and McEnany made them during an interview with a New York radio show.
Asked in 2015 whether the Republicans would rather run against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or Biden, McEnany said, āI think the Republicans run into a problem if it is Joe Biden and if it is maybe a Trump on the other side. Because Joe Biden, one of the things he is remarkable at is really kind of being a man of the people and resonating with middle class voters. Feeling like ā coming off as human. His gaffes ā as much as we make fun of them ā to a certain extent they make him look human.ā
McEnany added moments later, āI think at the end of the day, probably Joe, although if Trump is against Joe, I think the juxtaposition of kind of the man of the people and kind of this tycoon, is a problem. Although, Donald Trump is remarkably coming off as a man of the people despite being this wealthy business tycoon.ā
Her history of blasting Trump is well documented. During television hits before the 2016 election, McEnany said, āI donāt want to claim this guy,ā and, āDonald Trump has shown himself to be a showman, I donāt think heās a serious candidate.ā
