Lara Trump, a senior campaign adviser and the wife of PresidentĀ Donald Trump’sĀ son Eric Trump, is backing the president after he made remarks during his campaign rally in Michigan on Saturday about Michigan Gov.Ā Gretchen WhitmerĀ (D).

During her appearance on CNN’s ā€œState of the Unionā€ on Sunday, Jake Tapper argued Trump had continued to use ā€œheightened rhetoricā€ when Whitmer’s life was in danger after militia groups plotted to kidnap her.

He asked Lara Trump if her father in-law should ā€œtoneā€ down the rhetoric.

ā€œHe wasn’t doing anything, I don’t think, to provoke people to threaten this woman at all. He was having fun at a Trump rally and quite frankly there are bigger issues than this right now for everyday Americans. People want to get the country reopened. They want to get back to work. Not only are we trying to make it through a pandemic, but think about all of the cancers that have gone unaddressed,ā€ Lara Trump said.

She added, ā€œThink about the kids that aren’t in school who use school to get their one meal a day. There are issues at hand here that are bigger than just keeping everybody locked down. So I think people are frustrated and look the president was at a rally. It’s a fun, light atmosphere. Of course, he wasn’t encouraging people to threaten this woman. That’s ridiculous.ā€

Lara Trump stressed ā€œpeople are frustratedā€ across the nation because they just want the country to reopen.

She claimed she heard from residents of Michigan about how their businesses are ā€œbeing run into the ground.ā€

Trump supporters began to chant ā€œlock her upā€ after he criticized Whitmer’s COVID-19 policies, as IJR previously reported.

During an appearance on NBC’s ā€œMeet The Pressā€ on Sunday, Whitmer accused Trump of inciting domestic terrorism.
