Lara Trump, a senior campaign adviser and the wife of PresidentĀ Donald TrumpāsĀ son Eric Trump, is backing the president after he made remarks during his campaign rally in Michigan on Saturday about Michigan Gov.Ā Gretchen WhitmerĀ (D).
During her appearance on CNNās āState of the Unionā on Sunday, Jake Tapper argued Trump had continued to use āheightened rhetoricā when Whitmerās life was in danger after militia groups plotted to kidnap her.
He asked Lara Trump if her father in-law should ātoneā down the rhetoric.
āHe wasnāt doing anything, I donāt think, to provoke people to threaten this woman at all. He was having fun at a Trump rally and quite frankly there are bigger issues than this right now for everyday Americans. People want to get the country reopened. They want to get back to work. Not only are we trying to make it through a pandemic, but think about all of the cancers that have gone unaddressed,ā Lara Trump said.
She added, āThink about the kids that arenāt in school who use school to get their one meal a day. There are issues at hand here that are bigger than just keeping everybody locked down. So I think people are frustrated and look the president was at a rally. Itās a fun, light atmosphere. Of course, he wasnāt encouraging people to threaten this woman. Thatās ridiculous.ā
