Two days after being named Republican National Committee co-chair, Lara Trump said that election security will be her top priority.
Lara Trump is the wife of Eric Trump, the son of former President Donald Trump. In an interview with āSunday Morning Futuresā host Maria Bartiromo, Lara Trump said election integrity is a vital issue, interpreting comments from Attorney General Merrick Garland to mean āthat he wants to basically give access ⦠to anyone whether they are legally able to vote or not,ā according to Fox News.
āThat is a huge problem,ā she said, adding that the RNCās priorities are to āturn out the vote, protect the vote and raise money.
āBut I would argue that maybe the most important of those three is protecting the vote; election integrity,ā she said.
āWe have to ensure that when people go vote, they feel like their vote counts, that they are inspired to go vote. We can never allow what happened in 2020, and the questions surrounding that election, to ever happen again,ā she said, saying the RNC now has its first-ever election integrity division.
She said the RNC will have a national base of volunteers to monitor elections.
āTo anyone out there who is thinking about cheating in an election. We will go after you. You will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,ā she said.
Bartiromo noted that Attorney General Merrick Garland opposes voter IDs.
āHe said heās going to vow to stop states that have voter IDs. And you have to question whether or not this is about the 10 million illegals who have come into this country on Joe Bidenās watch,ā Bartiromo said.
āI had a friend the other day tell me she was standing at a food truck. Two gentlemen approached her. One had tattoos all over his face. They looked like illegals, she said.
āAnd one had a clipboard. And he said to her, āHello, miss, do you want to sign up to become a Democrat and voteā? she said. So youāre talking about people that you want to hire. Theyāre already doing that. And they may be doing it with illegals coming into this country.ā
āAnd I think youāre right. People say, āWhy do we have a fully open southern border?āā Lara Trump replied.
āAnd I think the only thing people can figure is that the Democrats are bleeding and hemorrhaging voters,ā she said.
āThey understand that they cannot fool people in this country any longer. So they have to import people. And the only reason that you wouldnāt want voter ID is if you want people who cannot vote to vote in these elections. It is insane,ā she said.
Lara Trump said the RNC will be making changes.
āI can guarantee you, that over the next eight months, youāre going to see things happen at the Republican National Committee unlike you have ever seen before because this is a must-win election. If Donald Trump is not elected on Nov. 5th of this year, I do not believe we have the same country on the other side,ā she said.
āIf these people are able to useĀ their communist tactics likeĀ they have to try and stop thisĀ one man; if they are able toĀ continue to destroy thisĀ country, weāll never get itĀ back,ā she said.
Asked if it was too late, Lara Trump said it was not.
āItās not too late. I think what we have to understand right now is that every tool in our war chest, we have to bring out because they are desperate, they are floundering. They are trying to sell a product to the American people in Joe Biden that they donāt want,ā she said.
āLook at the polling between JoeĀ Biden and Donald Trump.Ā If the election were held today,Ā Donald Trump would win handily,Ā no problem, hands down,ā she said.
āWe have to ensure that over the next eight months, we get people out to early vote, we ballot harvest like nothing weāve ever seen and we ensure that every person who is legally able to vote can do so and anyone who legally is not able to vote cannot do so,ā she said.
Lara Trump said the election calendar has changed, and the RNC must change with it.
āWeāve been playing checkers, and the Democrats have been playing chess,ā Trump told the Washington Examiner.
Unfortunately, we donāt have one day of Voting, we donāt have paper ballots, we donāt have voter ID everywhere. So we have to play the hand that weāre dealt,ā Trump said, citing the need for Republicans to vote early and use mail-in ballots. āThat way, we have votes banked as we head into Election Day, and weāre not playing catch up on Nov. 5 with the Democrats.ā
Michael Whatley, who had the former presidentās backing, was elected RNC chair Friday, replacing Ronna McDaniel, according to USA Today.
Whatley, who had been the Ā state chair of the North Carolina Republican Party said his top two priorities are āgetting out the voteā and āprotecting the ballot.ā
