A PAC that has steered millions of dollars toward electing far-left Democrats is blaming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for a deadly shooting at its Dallas, Texas, facility, saying the loss of life occurred âin ICE custody.â
The anti-ICE sniper who fired indiscriminately at agents and hit multiple detainees on Wednesday is another example of how ICE is âkilling immigrants,â the Justice Democrats PAC told supporters in a Thursdayemail one day after the attack. The PACÂ has spent millions of dollars in recent years on helping to elect Democrats such as Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, the first of a far-left faction in Congress known informally as âThe Squad.â
Joshua Jahn, 29, fired indiscriminately from a nearby building at the Dallas facility, killing at least one detainee and wounding two others before fatally shooting himself, authorities said. The shooter left âanti-ICEâ written on a bullet casing and writings that said he wanted to âgive ICE agents real terror,â investigators found. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has called the shooting âthe very definition of terrorism.â
Justice Democrats did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundationâs request for comment.
âSince Donald Trump took back the White House and launched his cruel mass-deportation agenda, at least 17 people have died in ICE custody,â the PAC wrote Thursday. Its list included âtwo detainees who were cruelly shot and killed by a gunman at a Dallas ICE facility yesterday.â Officials initially said two detainees were killed, then clarified that one died and two were in critical condition.
âHow sick for politicians to be fundraising over a horrific and politically motivated shooting against our brave ICE law enforcement,â Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told the DCNF. âThese politicians are fanning the flames of division with their lies, demonizing, and dehumanization.â
The email quoted Democratic Rep. Delia Ramirez of Illinois saying, âEvery death at the hands of ICE, every family separated by ICE, every orphan created by ICE is Kristi Noemâs responsibility. She must come to the committee and account for ICEâs unlawfulness.â
Justice Democrats has given Ramirezâ principal campaign committee $5,000 in the current election cycle, campaign finance records show. The PAC, founded in 2017, also gave Ocasio-Cortez $5,000 in 2018 out of more than $2.5 million it spent that cycle. Ocasio-Cortez has credited the PAC with recruiting her to run and jumpstarting her campaign operations.
Ocasio-Cortez and Ramirezâ campaigns did not respond to the DCNFâs requests for comment. They are both up for reelection in 2026.
Justice Democrats currently has a fundraising page on ActBlue with a call to âabolish ICE.â
âNot only are people dying in detention centers and at the hands of ICE agents, but hundreds have gone missing,â the PAC said Thursday. âNew reporting indicates that two-thirds of the 1,800 people held at the so-called Alligator Alcatraz center in Florida are missing in ICEâs online database and are unable to be located by their loved ones. They have truly been disappeared.â
The Department of Homeland Security has called the disappearing migrants claim a hoax, stating that no one has died at the detention facility.
âWe thought this shooting would serve as a wake-up call to the far-left turn down their rhetoric â but instead they are doubling down,â McLaughlin said about Democrats. âAccusing ICE of âdisappearingâ people and blaming them for deaths in custody has consequences.â
Wednesdayâs terrorist attack followed two other shootings in Texas in July targeting a Border Patrol facility in McAllen and an ICE detention center in Alvaredo. Trumpâs officials have blamed rising violence against immigration officials on rhetoric from Democrats and left-wing commentators, including comparing the agency to the Gestapo.
âEvery death in ICE custody is tragic and thoroughly investigated,â McLaughlin told the DCNF. âThe violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop.â
