At the very least, you’d assume the Democratic super-lawyer Marc Elias would cut them a break after a decade-plus of cozy collaboration.

Instead, Elias Law Group swooped in, racked up millions in legal fees, and then—brace yourself—demanded $4 million in unpaid bills from Media Matters, the same group supposedly fighting the “good fight” against the evil forces of free speech and unregulated opinions online.

When longtime Media Matters fundraiser Mary Pat Bonner got that bill—and the threat to “go pens down” if they didn’t pay up—her response was exactly what you’d expect from someone who thought political allegiance trumped actual contracts:
