Critics slammed Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfootâs (D) re-election campaign amid concerns about crime in the city.
During an episode of Fox Newsâs âThe Five,â the co-hosts reacted to an ad released by Lightfootâs campaign touting her approach to crime.
Co-host Greg Gutfeld chimed in, suggesting that Lightfoot is ânot fighting for crime. Sheâs fighting for power.â
He added, âOther peopleâs suffering only crosses her radar once it poses a political threat. It does show the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Republicans tend to confront their problem children, be it Santos or somebody else. The Dems just elect them, you know, to be a historical first.â
Gutfeld argued Lightfoot is making history but not for the right reasons.
âSheâs the first mayor to be under the thumb of cartels. Sheâs the worst mayor in America, the worst mayor Chicago has ever had. She looks like she hasnât slept since 1983. She dresses like she pantsed the Salvation Army bell ringer,â Gutfeld explained.
He went on to ask, âWhy donât the Democrats call her out on her record? Why donât they say anything? Itâs because theyâre cowards, and two, sheâs protected by her diversity shield. Right? A black lesbian left-winger.â

According to Gutfeld, Democrats are âwilling to let the city just be run into the ground. A 40% increase in murder. No white guy could get away with that.â
Co-host Geraldo Rivera weighed in on the crime in Chicago, pointing out the âoverwhelmingly black and poor half of the city is where most of the gang violence is happening. Chicago is on track now to have over seven â or had â over 700 murders and led the nation by far in murders last year. So she runs on a very tenuous record.â
He added, âThe problem from her point of view politically is that now that fear of crime, that absolute terror has people on the north side of town, the more affluent side of town, getting private police forces, security guards. So itâs there. The whole tempo of life in the Windy City has been undermined.â
Still, he believes Lightfoot will be reelected.
Lightfoot appears to be doing everything she can to get reelected.
Her campaign reportedly sent an email to public school teachers calling on them to recruit students to volunteer for her campaign in exchange for school credit.
