Rapper Lizzo appears to be taking issue with Cancel Culture.
On Sunday, Lizzo took to Twitter to express her frustration with the issue.
“This may be a random time to say this but it’s on my heart … Cancel Culture is appropriation. There was real outrage from truly marginalized people and now it’s become trendy, misused and misdirected,” Lizzo tweeted.
She added, “I hope we can phase out of this and focus our outrage on the real problems.”
Some Twitter users appeared to be surprised by Lizzo’s take on Cancel Culture.
One user wrote, “Well-said, Lizzo. Never thought I’d use those words together. Perfect person to note that white wokelets violate the rules they heap on others.”
Journalist Eve Barlow tweeted, “I wasn’t entirely sure what Lizzo meant by this at first, but after a deeper understanding I absolutely agree. Cancel Culture has been used to empower self-proclaimed social justice ‘warriors’ who think they’re aiding a cause by ruining other people’s lives. Hate doesn’t win.”
