The excuse of ā€œserious software errorā€ didn’t bode well with MAGA supporters.

That was the excuse New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) gave that led to thousands of non-citizens being registered to vote.

ā€œLast week I learned that a serious software error in New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle System led to the registration of roughly 6,600 people who indicated that they were not U.S. citizens between June 2023 and June 2024, almost three years prior to my taking office,ā€ Sherrill postedon X.

ā€œThese individuals answered ā€˜no’ when asked on a keypad whether they were a U.S. citizen when applying for drivers’ licenses and identification cards, but through no fault of their own, the system registered them anyway.ā€

Sherill said a ā€œpreliminary analysisā€ showed less than 400 people voted illegally.

She then turned her attention toward President Donald Trump, saying he has ā€œzero credibility on the issue of election integrityā€ and has tried to ā€œweaponize elections for political gain.ā€

Sherrill’s admission prompted comments from pro-Trump pundits and political figures.

ā€œHoly sh*t,ā€ influencer Tim Pool posted. ā€œEven when saying NO they were still registered.ā€

Former Republican lawmaker George Santos — who was released from prison last year by Trump after committing multiple campaign finance violations — chimed in.

ā€œI want to thank my former colleague Gov. Sherrill for validating the long known fact that she and her party insist are a conspiracy. ā€˜Illegals aren’t voting in our elections,'ā€ he posted.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) went after Sherrill for ā€œattackingā€ Trump in her post.

Blackburn said if she had any integrity she would insist New Jersey Democrats vote to require ID in federal elections.

ā€œWhy isn’t she calling on Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) to pass the SAVE America Act?ā€ Blackburn posted.

Sherrill’s post comes the week after DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said an inquiry found 250,000 non-citizens were registered to vote in four states, including New Jersey.

Mullin sent a letter to representatives for those states, including California, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, demanding they fix the issue.

If not, he said, officials could face fines or even ā€œprison time.ā€

Mullin thanked Sherrill for the ā€œquick workā€ on the matter, adding it ā€œshould’ve been done a LONG time ago.ā€
