The excuse of āserious software errorā didnāt bode well with MAGA supporters.
That was the excuse New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) gave that led to thousands of non-citizens being registered to vote.
āLast week I learned that a serious software error in New Jerseyās Motor Vehicle System led to the registration of roughly 6,600 people who indicated that they were not U.S. citizens between June 2023 and June 2024, almost three years prior to my taking office,ā Sherrill postedon X.
āThese individuals answered ānoā when asked on a keypad whether they were a U.S. citizen when applying for driversā licenses and identification cards, but through no fault of their own, the system registered them anyway.ā
Sherill said a āpreliminary analysisā showed less than 400 people voted illegally.
She then turned her attention toward President Donald Trump, saying he has āzero credibility on the issue of election integrityā and has tried to āweaponize elections for political gain.ā

Sherrillās admission prompted comments from pro-Trump pundits and political figures.
āHoly sh*t,ā influencer Tim Pool posted. āEven when saying NO they were still registered.ā

Former Republican lawmaker George Santos ā who was released from prison last year by Trump after committing multiple campaign finance violations ā chimed in.
āI want to thank my former colleague Gov. Sherrill for validating the long known fact that she and her party insist are a conspiracy. āIllegals arenāt voting in our elections,'ā he posted.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) went after Sherrill for āattackingā Trump in her post.
Blackburn said if she had any integrity she would insist New Jersey Democrats vote to require ID in federal elections.
āWhy isnāt she calling on Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) to pass the SAVE America Act?ā Blackburn posted.

Sherrillās post comes the week after DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said an inquiry found 250,000 non-citizens were registered to vote in four states, including New Jersey.
Mullin sent a letter to representatives for those states, including California, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, demanding they fix the issue.
If not, he said, officials could face fines or even āprison time.ā
Mullin thanked Sherrill for the āquick workā on the matter, adding it āshouldāve been done a LONG time ago.ā
