āReal Timeā host Bill Maher insists that his political views have not changed, rather that a āwokeā ideology has influenced Politics.
Maher made an appearance on conservative commentator Ben Shapiroās podcast in an episode that was released Sunday.
āWhen you say āwoke,ā you know, and I make fun of it too, because itās become an eye-roll in many ways,ā Maher said. āI assume at a certain moment and it wasnāt that long ago before we didnāt have the term⦠it was like alert to injustice, and I went, āOk, Iām down with that.'ā
However, he argued, it ābecame sort of a byword for a lot of this goofy stuff.ā
āThatās what Iām always railing against. Thatās why they play me on Fox News now,ā Maher added.

Shapiro interjected, āHow do you feel about that?ā
āI havenāt changed at all. My Politics hasnāt changed. changed,ā Maher responded.
He continued, āPeople say to me sometimes, you know, āHave you changed?ā No. Itās that five years ago, no one was talking about defunding the police. I never heard that phrase five years ago. Thatās not me changing. Thatās things changing. Iām reacting to it.ā
āLetting three-year-olds decide what gender they are. This wasnāt something five years ago. Free speech, you know, used to be a left-wing thing that we were proud and owned. Now that seems to be under attack. So again, I think Iāve stayed the same,ā Maher added.
He defended Floridaās controversial Parental Rights in Education bill, which prohibits teachers from discussing sexual orientation or gender identity from kindergarten through third grade, on his show Friday.
āItās not like thereās no kernel of truth in that maybe kids that young shouldnāt be thinking about sex at all. I donāt think itās specific,ā the host said.
Maher has been a vocal critic of the defund the police movement, which he called āfāing stupidā in 2020.
