Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) is declaring that packing the Supreme Court is ālong overdue court reform.ā
During an interview on CNN Tuesday, the Democratic lawmaker suggested court packing āis long overdue court reform as far as Iām concerned, and I have been thinking about court reform and what we can do regarding the Supreme Court to make it so much more objective.ā
She continued, āThis is not something that a lot of us have not thought about. But on the other hand, after the election we only have a serious discussion about any of these things if the Democrats take back the Senate.ā
āBut the first danger is, whatās going to happen in November when the Supreme Court takes up the Affordable Care Act? That is what everybody should be worried about and concerned,ā Hirono added.
Watch Hironoās interview below:
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden refused to answer on Monday if he would add more Supreme Court members if he is elected in the upcoming presidential election. However, he previously shared he was opposed to it.
He said during a WBAY interview, Biden said, āItās a legitimate question, but let me tell you why Iām not going answer that question.ā
āBecause it will shift the focus, thatās what he wants, he never wants to talk about the issue at hand and he always tries to change the subject. Letās say I answer that question, then the whole debates gonna be about what Biden said or didnāt say, Biden said he would or wouldnāt,ā the former vice president continued.
Court packing is expanding the Supreme Court to more justices. There have been nine seats since 1869, however, Congress has the power to increase or decrease the size of the bench.
