First Lady Melania Trump stirred up controversy after she previously wore a jacket that read on the back, âI really donât care. Do U?â
In June of 2018, Melania Trump sparked a lot of reactions and questions after she wore the green jacket with the writing on the back. She wore it on the way to and from her visit to McAllen, Texas, where she visited a detention center where immigrant children who were separated from their parents were held.
At the time, her spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, said, âItâs a jacket. There was no hidden message. After todayâs important visit to Texas, I hope the media isnât going to choose to focus on her wardrobe.â
Even the president chimed in about the jacket, writing:
And now, her former close friend and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff is weighing in on the jacket.
Wolkoff appeared on CNNâs âNew Dayâ Wednesday morning where she was asked âwhyâ the first lady wore it.
The former best friend shared that Melania Trump said ânobody will be able to jump on meâ because âMelania makes her own decisions.â
She added that the first lady wore it because she felt the media would not cover her âgood deedâ in visiting the border otherwise.
âThat jacket was really the first representation of Melania going on her own and her office saying, âItâs just a jacket.â Itâs anything but just a jacket.â
âIf she wants to do something, sheâs going to do it,â Wolkoff later added. âAnd her messaging is as strong as Donaldâs is, just in a very different way.â

Wolkoff wrote a new book, âMelania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady,â and she has suggested the Trump family is âfilled with friction, suspicion, deceit, deception.â
