While Melania Trump stayed at the White House residence, the president went to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, on Friday.

In an update, White House chief of staff Mark Meadowssaid on Monday during a phone call interview on “Fox & Friends,” “The doctors will actually have an evaluation sometime late morning and then the president, in consultation with the doctors, will make a decision on whether to discharge him later today.”

He added, “We’re still optimistic that based on his unbelievable progress and how strong he’s been in terms of his fight against this COVID-19 disease that he will be released, but that decision will not be made until later today.”

Additionally, Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pencetested negative again on Monday morning.

Following the news of the president and first lady’s diagnosis, former President Barack Obama sent “best wishes” to them, as IJR reported.

“Michelle and I are hopeful that they and others who have been affected by COVID-19 around the country are getting the care that they need, that they are going to be on a path to a speedy recovery,” he said during a virtual fundraiser on Friday.

The former president added, “It’s important, I think, for all of us to remember that even when we’re in the midst of big political battles, with issues that have a lot at stake, that we’re all Americans and we’re all human beings and we want to make sure that everybody is healthy.”
