Dr. Bernice King, Daughter of late Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King, opened up about finding hope in Jesus Christ before her fatherās birthday.
In an exclusive interview with Crosswalk Headlines, Bernice King, 60, credited her faith in Jesus for helping her find the light in a dark culture.
āIām always hopeful because of my relationship with Jesus, who gives me the hope and strength I need. I would also add that my relationship with Him allows me to keep pressing on no matter what is going on around me,ā she said.
She continued, āAs the Bible states, the dawn always comes after dark times. Itās one of the most powerful verses in the Bible.ā
Bernice King, whose message is, āIt all starts with me,ā told the outlet how she prepares herself each year for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The federal Holiday was signed into law in 1983 by former President Ronald Reagan, per the National Museum of African American History & Culture.
She shared:
āYou know, itās an ongoing process. I mean, it lives with me. Even now, as weāre talking, Iām thinking about 2024 and 2025. Itās an ongoing process for me because I see it as a benchmark for us, as a means for measuring our progress. As a leader and visionary, you must think that way, not tunnel vision. I try to sense and feel the atmosphere because I have somewhat of a prophetic gift, like my father. I do a lot of praying and meditating. I hate to say it this way, but until I have peace in my spirit, the theme sometimes has gotten held up.ā
Additionally, she spoke about the importance of carrying on her fatherās legacy.
āI know my father was sent to this world for a reason, and thatās why heās still resonating in our world. I donāt want to be careless with this legacy, but I want to ensure the King Center carries out its work and challenges people year-round,ā Bernice King said.
According to Britannica, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968, while standing on the second-floor balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 39 years old.
