Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene alleged Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has no say in President Donald Trump’s agenda, and is instead directed to act as a rubber stamp for the White House, the New York Times reported Monday.
Greene detailed her final conversations with the president, her frustrations with the stalled House of Representatives and the threats made against her family in a series of wide-ranging interviews with the outlet. Greene’s comments toward Johnson come on the heels of plummeting approval ratings for the Republican-led Congress as well as alleged widespread member dissatisfaction with Johnson and his leadership style as the legislative body attempts to tackle policies on health care and stock trading.
“I want you to know that Johnson is not our speaker. He is not our leader. And in the legislative branch — a totally separate body of government — he is literally 100 percent under direct orders from the White House,” Greene told the Times. “And many, many Republicans are so furious about that, but they’re cowards.”
