The Rev. Al Sharpton was heckled by protesters during his speech at the Haitian migrant encampment in Del Rio, Texas.
A press release from the civil rights organization National Action Network (NAN) said Sharpton toured the migrant camp to “meet and pray with refugees in the wake of the humanitarian crisis,” as Fox News reports.
While delivering his speech, protesters began shouting. One yelled, “Why are you stoking racism where it doesn’t exist?”
Another shouted, “How much money are you making out of this?”
One protester argued, “Del Rio is not a racist city. Del Rio is a loving, caring community. We don’t want your racism in Texas. Get out of here! Nobody wants to hear your racist nonsense in Del Rio!”
Someone proceeded to call Sharpton a “disgrace.”

Sharpton responded to the hecklers on Twitter, saying, “Headed back from the Haitian encampment in Del Rio. It was heartbreaking. We must have a fair asylum policy 4 everyone. Some expected hecklers supporting the brutal Border Patrol guys showed up, I didn’t react. Their behavior underscores my point. This is about race and Politics.”
During an appearance on “Morning Joe” on Friday, Sharpton detailed his experience at the southern border.
