A congresswomen from Ohio is recovering after being a victim of a hit-and-run Accident on her way to church Sunday morning.
Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) was hospitalized after the vehicle she was riding in was struck, according to the Toledo Police Department.
Kaptur, 80, was on her way to church when the Accident happened near Toledo, her office said in a statement.
She injuries are not life-threatening; she remains in stable condition.
"This morning, Congresswoman Kaptur was a passenger in a vehicle on her way to a church service when the car she was traveling in was struck. She is active, alert, and being treated for non-life threatening injuries," her office said.
The driver of Kaptur’s vehicle was identified as Kegan Zimmermann, who was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Police said the "hit-skip crash" happened at about 10:48 a.m. local time.
"A vehicle traveling southbound came into the path of Representative Kaptur, causing a collision. Both Representative Kaptur and Mr. Zimmerman were transported to St. Vincent's medical center for undisclosed, yet not serious injuries," police said in a statement, adding, "The driver of the at-fault vehicle fled the scene."
Both vehicles involved were impounded so evidence could be collected and processed.
The investigation remains in its early stages, police said.
"Toledo Police investigators have made significant progress and continue to follow several strong leads as they work to identify the driver responsible," authorities said.
Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle said he spoke with Kaptur and was pleased to hear she was recovering.
"I had a chance to speak with Representative Marcy Kaptur today, and we're glad to hear she's doing well. Our thoughts remain with her and Mr. Zimmermann as they recover," Troendle said in a statement. "Our investigators continue to make progress on this case. I appreciate the work our investigators have put in today, as well as the cooperation we've received from members of the community. We're committed to identifying the person responsible and ensuring they are held accountable."
Kaptur praised the police and fire departments for their quick response to the scene in a statement posted on X.
"Congresswoman Kaptur is thankful for the quick actions of first responders from Toledo Police and Fire Departments who arrived promptly on scene, and the medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash."

Many of Kaptur’s constituents reportedly reached out to the congresswoman following the incident.
"She expressed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out and looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon," her office said.
