A powerful East coast storm cut off power to over 100,000 Americans early Monday morning.

According to the New York Post, 55,000 people were without power in New York, 51,000 people lost power in New Jersey, and 82,000 suffered from outages in Connecticut.

Winds up to 55 mph accompanied the storm and a flood watch was issued to remain in effect throughout Monday until 6 p.m. in New York.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul posted on X, formerly Twitter, about the storm early Monday, stating, “Heavy rain high winds are continuing to impact the Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island.”

“State crews & utility workers are working to clear roads & restore power as quickly as possible. Please avoid travel if you can, & remember to never drive on flooded roads,” she added.

Fox Weather posted footage of flooding in Brooklyn and “Today” posted that 59 million people were impacted by the storm, which worked its way up the East coast.

“CBS Mornings” posted video footage of the massive rainfall and flooding.

The NYS Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services posted a warning in response to a New York State Thruway Authority message regarding flooding in the lower Hudson Valley.

It said, “There are several road closures due to flooding throughout the state today. Please avoid travel if you can and remember to never drive on flooded roads.”
