A Washington pastor revealed how changing his thoughts helped him grow closer to God.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Pastor Jesse Bradley from Grace Community Church in Auburn, Washington, spoke about the power of what he calls the “second thought” after a serious medical issue affected his professional soccer career when he was a college graduate.
“While I was playing in Africa and Zimbabwe, I took a prescribed medication that built up toxic levels in my system,” he explained.
According to Fox News Digital, Bradley was put on medication to help his health. However, the medication caused him to have consistent pain in his chest, an accelerated heartbeat, and murmur.
“My heart could no longer regulate itself, and it was incredibly scary to endure those episodes,” he recalled.
Bradley’s poor health resulted in panic attacks and waves of depression.
“It felt like it would come like a storm and bombard with negative thoughts — so I had to learn some new ways to cope,” he said.
During that difficult time, Bradley, who struggled with a “performance-based identity,” said changing his outlook on life was crucial, and believing he was loved and secure with the Lord helped heal his relationship with Him.
“I believe God does his greatest work in the darkest moments and in the worst situations in life,” he said.
