A spokesperson for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) went after news outlets for their coverage of a video showing her with newly-elected congresswoman Mayra Floresâ (R-Texas) daughter.
The video from Floresâ swearing-in ceremony went viral.
It appeared to show Pelosi pushing her elbow into Floresâ daughter, moving her to the side.
Drew Hammill tweeted, âItâs sad to see ânews outletsâ that know better misrepresent the Speakerâs effort to ensure Rep. Floresâ daughters wouldnât be hidden behind her in all of the photos of such an important moment for their family.â
Additionally, Hammill shared âmore footage of the Speaker graciously greeting Rep. Floresâ children and telling them about the room they are in.â
Flores previously reacted to the video of herself, saying, âI am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her. She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen.â
She added, âNo child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!â
In case you missed it:
During the ceremony, Pelosi said it is âa great honor to welcome Congresswoman Flores to the Capitol and to the Congress of the United States with great congratulations.â
She continued, âAnd again, grateful for her leadership and her beautiful family who is here today.â
Pelosi also thanked Flores for âyour courage to run for office and best wishes for your success.â
Flores was sworn in as the first Mexican-born congresswoman.
