President Donald Trump ended a recent CBS News â60 Minutes interviewâ early, resulting in the president sharing the full interview before it aired.
The president was not happy with the questioning by CBSâ Lesley Stahl last week, where he declared near the end that her questions were inappropriate âright from the beginning,â as IJR reported.
âSo what just happened with the president?â Stahl asked Vice President Mike Pence on Trump ending the interview early.
The vice president responded during his â60 Minutesâ interview, âLesley, President Trump is a man who speaks his mind. I think itâs one of the great strengths that heâs had as President of the United States that the American people always know where they stand.â
After Stahl said she will âbuy that,â Pence added, âThe American people know that in this time itâs less about the back-and-forth with the media, and itâs really more about how we bring this country all the way back.â
See Penceâs comments below:
When someone behind the scenes noted that there were five minutes before a walk-and-talk with Trump and Pence, the president, instead, said, âI think we have enough. We have enough.â
âI think weâre ready for the vice president now,â a production assistant said, before Trump said, âOK, thatâs enough. Letâs go.â
Before the interview began, the president was asked if he was âready for some tough questions,â to which he responded, âJust be fairâ and later added, âIâm going to be fair. You donât ask Biden tough questions. Itâs terrible.â
He later suggested that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden gets âsoftball after softballâ questions.
After calling the former vice presidentâs â60 Minutesâ interview a âjoke,â Trump said, âI see Joe Biden getting softball after softball. I see all of his interviews. Heâs never been asked a question thatâs hard.â
During Stahlâs interview with Pence, she pressed him, âThis was not just a campaign speech to the public. This was supposed to be an interviewâŚand the same with the president,â as IJR reported.
She added, âAnd I feel that you both have insulted â60 Minutesâ by not answering any of our questions and by giving set campaign speeches that weâve heard both of you give at rallies.â
âWhat question havenât I answered?â Pence asked, to which Stahl responded, âYou didnât answer any of my questions. You just gave speeches.â
