The ink is barely dry on the executive order President Donald Trump signed to enact the federal takeover of police in the nationâs capital and people are already report feeling safer.
Trump pointed to the crime statistics in Washington, D.C., when he federalized the police department and deployed 800 National Guard troops, per the Daily Wire.
The city is also working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in its fight against illegal immigration.
âWent on a run through DC tonight. Insane amount of people out doing the same,â James Laverty wrote X on Thursday. âCops everywhere but the vibe was different. People feel safe again. Common sense prevails.â
Journalist and commentator Katie Pavlich wrote about thr notable difference in D.C.
âFirst time at Union Station this morning since Trumpâs crime crackdown and there wasnât a single crazy person screaming, vagrant or person doing drugs. Instead, lots of families visiting D.C.,â she wrote. âWonderful!!!â
Additionally, a womanâs video posted to TikTok and X, which commented on the safe vibes of the D.C. area, went viral, racking up millions of views.
Another post shared a TikTok of a woman talking about how safe she felt.
âFinally able to chill at a red light with my windows down, not worried about if one of them young n****s is coming,â the woman said. âRiding through the city, feeling more safe than I ever felt.â
Some Democrats, however, are not as optimistic.
They include Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) called Trump a âtinpot dictatorâ for his actions in D.C., Fox News reported.
âFirst, Donald Trump used the Marines and the National Guard to support his mass deportation agenda in Los Angeles,â Schiff posted Aug. 11. âNow, heâs using similar tactics in D.C. like a tinpot dictator. Donât look away. Donât stay silent. If you do, donât be surprised if itâs your city next.â
