Police are investigating after human Remains were discovered inside the chimney of a public school in Queens, New York, during an investigation into reports of a foul odor.

According to Fox News, the Remains were found shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday at P.S./I.S. 113 Anthony J. Pranzo. Officers responded to the school after receiving a report about the odor, leading to the discovery inside the building's chimney.

Authorities have not identified the deceased person, and investigators are working to determine both the individual's identity and how the Remains ended up inside the chimney.

Contractors had been working at the school in recent days. Investigators are attempting to verify that all workers assigned to the project have been accounted for.

City Buildings Department records show permits had been issued for several projects at the school, including electrical wiring, hot water heating and other maintenance work.
