A routine Border Patrol pursuit near Eagle Pass, Texas, took a more serious turn when agents discovered that one of four suspected illegal border crossers was a convicted child sex offender who had previously been deported from the United States.
Border Patrol agents detected the small group attempting to enter the country illegally on Aug. 19 and gave chase. After apprehending all four individuals, agents began running the standard immigration and criminal-background checks used to identify previous arrests, convictions and immigration violations.
Those checks identified one of the men as 52-year-old Cuban national Alexis Suarez-Trejos.
According to Border Patrol, Suarez-Trejos is a registered sex offender in Nevada with a criminal record dating back more than two decades.
Database records showed that Suarez-Trejos was convicted in Clark County, Nevada, in 2001 of an offense involving the sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. He received a 40-month prison sentence and was required to register as a sex offender in Nevada.
After serving his sentence, Suarez-Trejos was removed from the United States.
His immigration history did not end there.
Authorities said his record contains multiple immigration offenses and that he was most recently removed from the country on Oct. 22, 2025. Less than a year later, agents say, he was back at the southern border attempting to enter the United States illegally.
That history could substantially increase the consequences he faces this time.
Suarez-Trejos is now charged with illegal re-entry following deportation under 8 U.S.C. Section 1326. Because of his previous felony conviction, authorities say he could face as many as 20 years in federal prison if convicted under the applicable enhanced penalty provisions.
Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony “Scott” Good pointed directly to Suarez-Trejos’ criminal history when discussing the arrest.
“Illegal aliens who prey on the children of our communities are an egregious threat,” Good said. “I’m proud of our agents who, every day, stand ready to protect this nation from such dangers.”
