Texas A&M University has terminated a professor and removed senior staff from their positions after a student was ejected ed from class for speaking out against a gender ideology lesson.
A viral video from inside the classroom showed a student in a childrenās literature course objecting during a professorās lesson on āgender and sexuality,ā saying she believed it violated the law. The professor responded that she could not be stopped from āteaching things that are biologically trueā and had the ālegal and ethical authorityā to cover the subject, before ordering the student to leave.
āAccording to our president, thereās only two genders,ā the student says, alleging that the instruction āvery much goes against not only myself but a lot of peopleās religious beliefs.ā
āThis afternoon, following full consideration of the facts related to this situation, I directed the Provost to terminate the professor involved, effective immediately,ā A&M president General Mark A. Welsh III said in a message to the community. āPlease understand that these decisions were mine alone and were not made lightly.ā
The course content was flagged during the summer for failing to āalign with any reasonable expectation of standard curriculum for the course,ā but was approved to continue by the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the head of the English department, according to Welsh.
InĀ an initialĀ statement on Facebook, Welsh announced Monday he had ādirected the provost to remove the dean and department head from their administrative positions, effective immediately.ā

Welsh elaborated in the full statement posted at the A&M website on Tuesday, explaining that those involved had ignored previous directives and continued with the content.
āAfter this issue was raised, college and department leadership worked with students to offer alternative opportunities for students to complete the course, and made changes to ensure this course content does not continue in future semesters,ā he wrote. āAt that time, I made it clear to our academic leadership that course content must match catalog descriptions for each and every one of our course sections.ā
āHowever, I learned late yesterday that despite that directive, the college continued to teach content that was inconsistent with the published course description for another course this fall,ā the university president continued. āAs a result, I took the above administrative actions.ā
College deans and department heads throughout the university were also directed to audit course offerings āto ensure they align with the course descriptions.ā (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: GOP Sens Take On Schools Transitioning Kids Behind Parentsā Backs)
āWhen it comes to our academic offerings, we must keep faith with our students and with the state of Texas,ā the message concluded. āThis isnāt about academic freedom; itās about academic responsibility.ā
The Trump administration announced on Jan. 20 it was adopting the biological definition of male and female and further banned schools from āImprinting anti-American, subversive, harmful, and false ideologies on our Nationās children,ā including teaching gender ideology. Noncompliance with the directive could spell massive federal funding cuts for schools.
