Raffensperger on DOJ Lawsuit Over Voting Law: Look Forward To ‘Beating Them’

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) is looking forward to “beating” the Biden administration in court after the U.S. ⚖️Department of Justice (DOJ) announced it is suing the state over its controversial 🗳️Voting law.

“The Biden administration continues to do the bidding of Stacey Abrams and spreads more lies about Georgia’s election laws. Their lies already cost Georgia $100 million and got the President awarded with four Pinocchios,” Raffensperger said in a statement.

He added, “It is no surprise that they would operationalize their lies with the full force of the federal government. I look forward to meeting them, and beating them, in court.”

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and Kristen Clarke, the head of the department’s Civil Rights Division, announced the move on Friday, as IJR reported.

“Today, the ⚖️Department of Justice is suing the state of Georgia. Our complaint alleges that recent changes to Georgia’s election laws were enacted with the purpose of denying or abridging the right of black Georgians to vote on account of their race or color, in violation of Section 2 of the 🗳️Voting Rights Act,” Garland said.

The Election Integrity Act was passed by the state legislature in March and signed by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R).

As The Washington Post reports, “The law imposes new limits on the use of absentee ballots, makes it a crime for outside groups to provide food and water to voters waiting at polling stations, and hands greater control over election administration to the state legislature.”

Kemp took to Twitter on Friday to respond to the lawsuit.

“This lawsuit is born out of the lies and misinformation the Biden administration has pushed against Georgia’s Election Integrity Act from the start. Joe Biden, Stacey Abrams, and their allies tried to force an unconstitutional elections power grab through Congress – and failed,” Kemp wrote.

He added, “Now, they are weaponizing the U.S. ⚖️Department of Justice to carry out their far-left agenda that undermines election integrity and empowers federal government overreach in our democracy.”
