Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) is speaking out about a phone call he had with President Donald Trump that is being shared across the internet.
Speaking with ABCâs George Stephanopoulos on âGood Morning Americaâ Monday, Raffensperger talked about the phone call, to which he said Trump âdid most of the talkingâ while he âdid most of the listeningâ but wanted to make sure he made his points.
Raffensperger added, âThe data that he has is just plain wrong.â
The Georgia secretary of state was asked if he found it lawful for the president to ask him to âfindâ the votes.
âIâm not a lawyer,â Raffensperger responded. âAll I know is weâre going to follow the law, follow the process â truth matters, and weâve been fighting these movements for the last two months.â
Watch Raffenspergerâs interview below:
In audio obtained by The Washington Post and published over the weekend, Trump is heard saying in a call with Raffensperger, âI just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state,â as IJR reported on.
Trump also said during the call on Saturday, âThe people of Georgia are angry, the people in the country are angry,â adding, âAnd thereâs nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that youâve recalculated.â
Raffensperger defended the state against Trumpâs claim, saying during the phone call, âWell, Mr. President, the challenge that you have is, the data you have is wrong.â
In case you missed it:
A senior adviser to President-elect Joe Biden, Bob Bauer, slammed Trump for the remarks made during the phone call.
Bauer said in a statement, âWe now have irrefutable proof of a president pressuring and threatening an official of his own party to get him to rescind a stateâs lawful, certified vote count and fabricate another in is place.â
A Republican Congressmember also weighed in on the audio.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) called it âabsolutely appallingâ in a tweet and added, âTo every member of Congress considering objecting to the election results, you cannot- in light of this- do so with a clean conscience.â
Trump previously torched Raffensperger, deeming him an âenemy of the people,â as IJR previously reported. Additionally, Raffensperger has shared how he and his family voted for Trump but âare now being thrown under the bus by him.â
