A female pastor claimed on Wednesday that those who were ânot standing activelyâ against United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were no different than Judas.
Republican Louisiana Gov. Greg Landry signed a partnership with ICE in May that allows state law enforcement agencies to work with the federal agency in enforcing immigration laws. The Rev. Liv Thomas, co-director of the NOLA Wesley and Labyrinth CafĂŠ at Tulane University, claimed that failing to oppose ICE was âactively allowingâ people to be kidnapped.
âBefore Christ was hung on the cross and executed, before he was kidnapped, before he was surveilled, before he crossed some borders he wasnât supposed to, he was turned into the authorities by a friend, by Judas, for 30 pieces of silver,â Thomas claimed. âYou councilpeople, by not standing actively against ICE, are moving like Judas. For what, 30 pieces of silver?â

âIf you do not change your ways, you are selling out your neighbors, our neighbors, hardworking, kind people, for what?â Thomas added. âYou are actively allowing for kidnappings to take place in broad daylight.â
The Trump administrationâs efforts to enforce immigration law have also face violent resistance at times. On Nov. 29, rioters in New York City attempted to thwart an operation by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
ICE facilities in Chicago and Portland, Oregon, have been the scene of multiple riots as opposition to the agencyâs operations targeting illegal immigrants intensified. During ICE operations in Chicago, agents were reportedly attacked by multiple assailants who used cars to ram vehicles.
The Department of Homeland Security said in a Sept. 26 post on X there had been multiple violent attacks on an ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois. In Portland, Oregon, violent protesters reportedly attacked conservative journalists covering the riots at the ICE facility and also reportedly planned to use lasers against aircraft used by federal law enforcement agencies.
Two people were killed during a Sept. 24 shooting targeting an ICE facility in the Dallas area, when a gunman, who committed suicide, opened fire at the facility. In Texas, there were at least two previous incidents when shots were fired at ICE or Border Patrol facilities in July, with ten people being charged with attempted murder and conspiracy in connection with the incident in Alvarado, Texas.
