A teenage driver was saved by a police officer and Good Samaritans after driving recklessly and flipping his car near Atlanta.
11 AliveĀ shared footage that was captured by a bodycam. It starts with Sgt. Michael Peterson attempting to make a traffic stop. He then tried to pull the car over but found it flipped over on the side of the road just moments later.
The 19-year-old driver was ejected through the sunroof and pinned under the vehicle. He told the driver, āHey man, stop moving, stop moving. Weāre trying to get on it. Can you breathe?ā
The officer was heard asking, āYou canāt breathe?ā
Peterson then jumped into action, organizing the passengers and bystanders to lift the car and pull out the driver.
āHe canāt breathe. You, you and me will lift this car up right now,ā the officer commanded.
āSomeone get in there and pull him out,ā he instructed.
More police officers arrived to help as they began. One noted, āCome on yāall, we got this.ā
Together, the group lifted the 3,600-pound vehicle to free the driver. Sgt. Peterson then said, āHeās out! Good job, yāall.ā
One of the officers instructed the driver to stay where he was, once able to breathe, and announced that an ambulance was en route.
13 WMAZ reported that the Lawrenceville Police Department later stated, āThe 19-year-old driver sustained several injuries related to the crash and continues receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.ā
āThe actions of the four officers and the Good Samaritans likely saved his life,ā they added.
The driver will be facing multiple charges once discharged from the hospital. These include: speeding, reckless driving, fleeing to elude a police officer, and unsafe lane change charges, according to Fox News.
Capt. Salvador Ortega stated, āWe are very glad that our officers were there at the right place at the right time and this ultimately led to the driver surviving this dangerous crash.ā
