Actress Reese Witherspoon is talking about her new book.

On Tuesday, she appeared on “Good Morning America” and shared the inspiration behind her new children’s book titled “Busy Betty.”

“During the pandemic, I was so bored and I was cleaning out old photos and I found all these pictures of me as a young girl and all the little businesses I had started,” she said.

She added, “And I was like, I was busy ever since I was little and I thought what about if I made a children’s book teaching young people about early business concepts.”

Witherspoon also revealed that “Betty” in the story is named after her mother, a teacher and also a nurse for 40 years, who is the “original busy person” that she got all her busyness from.

When asked what her businesses were growing up, Witherspoon said she would have circuses and magic shows.

She also said she “got in so much trouble” in third grade for “defacing school property” after she started a “barrette customizing business” out of her desk. While using the paint to write everyone’s name, she got it all over the desk.

Witherspoon joked that through these businesses she “cleared a very nice profit.”

Witherspoon explained that she thinks part of what is “really fun” about making this book and that she wanted to come up with businesses “that kids can actually do” like a dog washing service in their neighborhoods.

She also said that she feels “so proud of this character” and feels like it is “an inspiration to young people.”

“I was a kid who had endless energy and creativity but I had to learn how to focus to get finished with tasks and I also had to learn how to build structure around my creativity in order to harness it for something successful,” she said.
