Those who have been caught vandalizing the Lincoln âMemorial Reflecting Pool on Washingtonâs National Mall can expect to be fullyprosecuted.
Thatâs according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who made the announcement Sunday.
President Donald Trump is blaming Vandalism for problems with the newly renovated pool. This includes the ânew blue paint peeling off.
Pirro said citations for Vandalism have been issued. She added even minor crimes must be prosecuted to â keep the U.S. capital safe.
The peeling paint was visible in the 2,000-foot-long rectangular pool â less than two weeks after Trump declared its $14.7 million renovation project was done on June 6.
On Saturday, Trump claimed vandals âpoured corrosive chemicals into the pool.
âAnyone who is in a position âof vandalizing or attempting to vandalize will face the criminal justice system in âD.C.,â Pirro told Fox Newsâ âSunday Briefing.â
Watch:
There has also been an Algae bloom in the pool that makes the water look â green.
Those adding products âto the pool â that can generate Algae could face more severe charges, Pirro said.
Last week, workers from â the â National Park Service added hydrogen peroxide to the pool to âfight the Algae.
Trump first brought up allegations of Vandalism on Friday on Truth Social, when he wrote 75% of âthe Algae is gone.
âThe Algae is 75% gone, and the condition will soon be completely remedied, and the area that was vandalized, fortunately, is just a small area of damage, and will be fixed early next week,â Trump wrote. âItâs a shame that the Radical Left Lunatics, most likely Dumocats, who have spent their lives trying to ruin our Country, are free to do so. Law Enforcement is actively investigating this situation, and will hopefully have it resolved soon.â
He also âaccused ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl of âtrying to rip the rubber off of the surfaceâ of the pool.
âLightweight ABC Reporter, Jonathan Karl, was seen sticking his hand into the Pool, and trying to rip the rubber off of the surface,â the president posted.
ABC did not respond to a request for comment.
