Fitness guru Richard Simmonsâ cause of death has been ruled âaccidental,â his family announced Wednesday.
According to âGood Morning America,â a statement was provided by Tom Estey, the familyâs spokesman.
âThis morning, Richard Simmonsâ brother Lenny, received a call from the LA Coronerâs office,â Estey said in the statement. âThe Coroner informed Lenny that Richardâs death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor.â
âThe toxicology report was negative,â besides the medication that was prescribed to Simmons, the statement continued.
Simmons died on July 13. He was 76 years old.
âThe Family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss,â per the statement.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner said, âThe cause of death and report are not yet finalized, and the report has not been released.â
Simmons became a prominent figure in the fitness world in the 1980s with videos such as âSweatinâ to the Oldies.â
However, Simmons stayed out of the public eye recently.
He posted on Facebook one day before his death, as he celebrated his 76th birthday on July 12.
âThank youâŚI never got so many messages about my birthday in my life! I am sitting here writing emails. Have a most beautiful rest of your Friday,â he wrote.
