Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who worked as an armorer on the movie âRustâ will spend the next 18 months in prison for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Gutierrez-Reed, who found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in October 2021, was Monday by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer. She will spend her incarceration at a New Mexico womenâs correctional facility, per People.
Gutierrez-Reed, 26, addressed the court before she was sentenced.
âFirst and foremost, my heart aches for the Hutchins family and friends and colleagues as well, and it has since the day this tragedy occurred,â she said, adding, âI understand that she was taken too soon, and I pray that you all find peace.â
Gutierrez-Reed was in charge of prop guns on the film starring and co-produced by Alec Baldwin. Baldwin was holding the gun when it went off and killed Hutchins on Oct. 21, 2021, in New Mexico.
The armorer admitted she was âyoung and naiveâ when she took the job. She said she was âsaddened by the way media sensationalized our traumatic tragedy and portrayed me as a complete monster, which has actually been the total opposite of whatâs been in my heart.â
Jurors found Gutierrez-Reed liable in March for the death of Hutchins. She was cleared of tampering with evidence.
Baldwin, 66, is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. He has pleaded not guilty and could receive up to 18 months in prison if found guilty. His trial is set for July.
According to a report from NBC News, Gutierrez-Reed called jurors âidiotsâ and âaâholesâ in recorded jail phone conversations.
She also complained jurors took only two hours to deliberate, according to a filing by prosecutors.
âAccording to the prosecutorsâ filing, the jail calls include mentions of other inmates saying, âI canât believe they threw your pretty little white ass in here for nothing,â per NBC News.
Regarding witnesses, Gutierrez-Reed said they lied, adding, âshe didnât need to be shaking the dummies all the time,â the filing said.
âHannah thinks the producers should be in jail while complaining about first assistant director Dave Halls and how he âfâed Hannah to save his own ass,ââ the filing said.
