Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) apparently took a jab at Vice President Kamala Harris for not having biological children of her own.
The dig came as she was introducing Donald Trump at a Flint, Michigan, town hall Tuesday, according to the HuffPost.
Sanders talked about getting her ready for a dance when her daughter said, âłâItâs OK, mommy, one day you can be pretty too,ââ Sanders said. âSo my kids keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesnât have anything keeping her humble.â
âYou would think after four years of straight failure, she would know a little humility. Unfortunately, she doesnât,â Sanders added.
Sanders was criticized last year when she signed a bill stunting several child labor protections across Arkansas. This included eliminating a requirement that employers obtain work certificates for children under the age of 16.
Her office referred to it as an âarbitrary burden on parents.â
The month before she signed the bill into law, a food sanitation business was fined $1.5 million for having minors do dangerous meatpacking jobs in states such as Arkansas.
Harris has two stepdaughters through her marriage with husband, Doug Emhoff. However, Republicans have attacked her for not having biological children of her own.
Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Trumpâs running mate, called Harris one of the Democratic Partyâs âchildless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that theyâve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.â
Vance has since said his comments were misinterpreted. However, the term has been one of Vanceâs go-to targets.
In 2020, he said being childless âmakes people more sociopathicand ultimately our whole country a little bit less mentally stable.â
