MSNBC host Joe Scarborough claimed Tuesday he received many āsupportiveā phone calls after he revealed he and his co-host and wife Mika Brzezinski met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
Scarborough said at the start of āMorning Joeā Monday he and Brzezinski met with Trump Friday for the first time in seven years at the Florida estate owned by the president-elect, claiming they needed to ārestart communications.ā While Scarborough faced criticism on social media for meeting with Trump, he claimed that he was flooded by āvery positiveā calls from several people.

āI will say also, I just want to say thank you, first of all, to everybody who was so kind last night, but also thank you ā Willie, yesterday I saw for the first time what a massive disconnect there was between social media and the real world, because we were flooded with phone calls from people all day, literally around the world, very positive, very supportive, āI understand why you did what you did,ā et cetera, et cetera, et cetera,ā Scarborough said.
āBut once in a while I would get a text, āOh, man, I hope youāre doing okay.ā And I would call them back and Iād go ⦠āEddie, are you on Twitter?ā And he goes, āI am.ā I go, āIām not,āā Scarborough continued. āSo, weāve had a good day. Mika just had a wonderful event and itās fantastic. Weāre going to do ā all of us will do the best we can do and weāre all working towards a better America.ā
Viewers of the MSNBC morning program posted their disapproval on social media, as did fellow MSNBC host Katie Phang, who warned against efforts to ānormalizeā Trump. āThe Viewā co-host Sunny Hostin accused the married āMorning Joeā co-hosts of electing to figuratively ākiss the ringā of the president-elect and claimed their visit meant they werenāt journalists.
Former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly also roasted Scarborough and Brzezinski over the meeting, with the latter calling Scarborough and Brzezinski ādishonest jokes.ā
