Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) is responding to criticism he received following his reaction to President Joe Biden’s address to Congress.

During an appearance on Fox News on Thursday, Scott mentioned comments made by social media users following his speech.

“Intolerance so often comes from the left with words like ‘Uncle Tim’ and the ‘n-word’ being used against me,” Scott said.

He continued, “And last night what was trending in social media was ‘Uncle Tim,’ and they doubled down on this concept of liberal oppression. It is stunning in 2021 that those who speak about ending discrimination want to end it by more discrimination.”

Scott argued, “The left has doubled down that they are going to, not attack my policies, but they’re literally attacking the color of my skin.”

Calling the trend on Twitter “disappointing,” Scott continued, “Those people who want to be respected and given the opportunity to live their lives any way they want to, they don’t want the same thing for you and me.”

He added, “What they want for us is for us to stay in a little small corner and not go against the tide that they think is America.”

The Senator went on, “Their America and my America aren’t the same America, if in fact they think that discriminating is the fastest way to end discrimination.”

During his remarks on Wednesday night, Scott said the United States is “not a racist country,” as IJR reported.

When Vice President Kamala Harris was asked on Thursday if she agrees with Scott, she replied, “First of all, no I don’t think America is a racist country. But we also do have to speak truth about the history of racism in our country and its existence today.”

She continued, “These are issues that we must confront. It does not help to heal our country, to unify us as a people to ignore the realities of that.”

Touching on Harris’ comments during his Fox News interview, Scott said, “I will agree with the vice president on one thing. The internal struggle that we see in our nation, oftentimes led by the left, is a problem, a problem we can solve together.”
