The Shocking Vote That Changes Everything
Senate Democrats just blocked a massive defense bill that usually passes every single year. This rare move happened because they refuse to fund a war in Iran that they call unauthorized. Nine out of 13 Democrats on the Senate Armed Services Committee voted against the bill. They want to stop President Trump from dragging the country into a deeper conflict. Thatās a lot of money. And itās a massive break from tradition.
The vote failed with a tally of 50 to 46, which is not enough to move forward. According to the Washington Times, the bill included a pay raise for our troops. But Democrats said they couldnāt support it while the war in Iran continues. Per the Washington Examiner, all Democrats in the chamber opposed the measure on Tuesday. Not great. Itās a total standstill.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer argued the president is waging an unauthorized war. He claims the White House is defying majorities in Congress and refusing to tell the American people the truth. āThe NDAA cannot become a permission slip for that recklessness that we see occurring in Iran,ā Schumer stated. This is a huge break from how these bills usually work. Think about that. For decades, these passed like clockwork.
Why Democrats Drew This Line
The timing is critical. The vote came one day after the White House notified Congress that bombing strikes against Iran resumed. According to the Washington Times, this action effectively ended a fragile ceasefire in the conflict. The U.S. and Israel started the war back in February to force Iran to stop its nuclear program. Hereās the thing: The clock is ticking.
Now, Iran has blocked the Strait of Hormuz, which is a chokepoint for the worldās energy supply. The United States has launched new waves of strikes in response. President Trump sent a letter to Congress to get another 60 days under the War Powers Act. Schumer says Trump doesnāt get to drag the people deeper into a war he canāt explain. And hereās why. Itās about unchecked power.
Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., fired back at the Democrats for playing games. āItās about supporting our troops, supporting our military, and itās disappointing when Democrats play games with that,ā he said. He believes the bill is just about supporting the troops, not politics. But Schumer argues that Congress cannot ignore the nationās most urgent national security crisis. Classic misdirection. Or so they claim.
Folks, Trump gave Iran a chance, and theyāve decided to go on the offensive again. Itās time to put an end to this, but the Democrats want to hinder us. Iran is now purposely trying to hurt the worldās economy. It no longer matters what got us into this mess, we are in the mess and Trump gave them an out. They didnāt take it, now itās time to put an end to Iranās nonsense.
