A sudden burst of law enforcement activity near the nation’s capital triggered a security lockdown at the White House on Monday after an officer-involved Shooting unfolded just blocks away.
According to the New York Post, the United States Secret Service confirmed its personnel responded to the incident, which took place along the National Mall near the Washington Monument, a short distance south of the White House complex.
“One individual was shot by law enforcement; their condition is currently unknown,” the agency said in a statement.
Officials indicated the Shooting stemmed from a confrontation involving an armed person.
A spokesperson said it appeared the situation escalated after “a confrontation with an armed individual,” though further details were not immediately released. Authorities said a formal briefing on the incident would be held later in the day.
