SingerBonnie Tyler, best known for her song “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” died in Portugal.

The Welsh Singer was 75.

The Grammy-nominated Singer died unexpectedly in a hospital in Portugal, where she was being treated for an illness, her family said in a statement on her website.

Tyler was placed in an induced coma for emergency intestinal surgery in May.

“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in a hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” her family said.

Liberto Mealha, a close friend, told The Sun Tyler started to feel unwell during a concert in London. She underwent tests that didn’t detect any issues at the time.

She traveled back to Portugal, where she developed intense abdominal pain.

“Two days later, she went to a private hospital, which urgently transferred her to the hospital in Faro because her appendix had burst and she needed emergency surgery,” Mealha said.

Following the intestinal surgery, she was placed in an induced coma to help in her recovery.

Tyler’s song, “Holding Out for a Hero,” was a top 40 hit and was featured on the “Footloose” soundtrack in 1984.

Her song “Total Eclipse of the Heart” has more than 1 billion streams and spent four weeks at No. 1.

She earned three Grammy nominations and was awarded an MBE for her services to music.
