Late-night host Stephen Colbert did not mince words in his response to President Donald Trumpâs claim that Chicago was the âworst and most dangerous city in the world.â
Trump made his claim in social media Tuesday morning.
âAt least 54 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, 8 people were killed. The last two weekends were similar. Chicago is the worst and most dangerous city in the World, by far. Pritzker needs help badly, he just doesnât know it yet,â Trump wrote. âI will solve the crime problem fast, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again, and soon. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!â
Colbert responded during his monologue Wednesday night, per Fox News.
âYesterday, Donald Trump made a hard right onto the fascism freeway, announcing that he will deploy National Guard troops to Chicago,â Colbert said.
Trump hinted he would send National Guard troops into Chicago.
âWorst and most dangerous?â Colbert said. âTwo words: âFâ you!ââ
Trump also referred to Chicago as the âmurder capitalâ of the world.
âTrump slandered on: âChicago is the murder capital of the world!â Fun fact: no. According to the FBI, 22 major cities have higher rates of murder than Chicago â one of them being Birmingham, Alabama,â Colbert said.
Colbert went on to laud the Windy City as well as its residents.
âThis is a scary time for the people of Chicago. And I love the people of Chicago. I used to be a people of Chicago. In fact, I lived there 11 years,â Colbert said. âStarted my career there. We took our show to Chicago last summer, had an amazing time. But come to think of it, you know what? A lot of us did come home murdered.â
This was not the first time Colbert had strong words for the president.
He told Trump to âgo f*** yourselfâ after the president reveled in the cancellation of the Colbertâs show.
âHow dare you, sir?â Colbert said. âWould an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism? Go f*** yourself.â
