Questions are mounting following the death of longtime “Storage Wars” personality Darrell Sheets, as a former co-star claims online harassment may have played a role.
According to an exclusive report from Page Six, Sheets, 67, was found dead at his home in Arizona from what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities confirmed the case remains under investigation, including claims that he had been targeted online in the weeks leading up to his death.
Fellow cast member Rene Nezhoda spoke out shortly after the news broke, pointing to what he described as ongoing harassment.
“He had this guy, like, really, really tormenting him lately and cyberbullying [him],” Nezhoda said in an Instagram video.
“Darrell has been posting a lot about the guy that’s been cyberbullying him and tormenting him, and I really hope [law enforcement] look into that guy and it’s just not a pass,” he added.
Officials acknowledged the claims were being reviewed.
“We are aware of these cyberbullying accusations, and that is a part of the active investigation,” said Sgt. Kyle Ridgway of the Lake Havasu City Police Department.
Nezhoda also used his message to address viewers who followed the show, urging caution about assumptions made based on television appearances.
“Guys, just because you watch us on television doesn’t mean you know us,” he said. “It doesn’t mean you know what we’re about.”
He emphasized that harassment should never be tolerated.
“As a matter of fact,” he said, “if you have somebody in your life that thinks it’s funny to cyberbully other people … slap them in the back of the head.”
“Make them become a better human being, because you never know what demons somebody faces and what they go through and what you might push them through,” he continued, urging fans to “be better.”
Reflecting on his relationship with Sheets, Nezhoda said their on-screen rivalry didn’t tell the full story.
“I know a lot of you guys think we hated each other because we competed a lot on the show and, you know, we had our moments,” he explained. “We had our run-ins, but that’s because we were both competitors, right?”
“Deep down, me and Darrell were friends,” he continued. “We talked every now and then. He’s a very hard worker that cared more than anyone I’ve probably ever met about their family.”
Police said Sheets was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was later transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A fixture on Storage Wars, Sheets appeared in more than 160 episodes between 2010 and 2023, earning the nickname “The Gambler” for his aggressive bidding style.
After stepping away from television, he settled in Arizona, where he operated an antique store up until his death.
