A South Georgia high school teacher is facing child molestation charges after investigators said she had inappropriate contact with a student, a case that quickly drew attention to her social media history and a sudden divorce filing by her husband.
According to the New York Post, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said 29-year-old Danielle Weaver was taken into custody Feb. 18 after school officials at Lee County High School in Leesburg reported allegations involving a minor.
Authorities later charged her with child molestation and improper sexual contact by an employee, agent, or foster parent.
The district said the staff member tied to the case was removed from employment after the allegations surfaced.
“Upon discovering the allegations, school and district leadership acted immediately to ensure the safety and well-being of students, as well as to conduct a thorough investigation,” the district said in a statement.
Officials said the district learned of the claims Feb. 3 and contacted law enforcement. Investigators secured an arrest warrant Feb. 17, and Weaver turned herself in the following day.
