A member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters bemoaned the unionās decision to stay neutral in the 2024 election.
The union announced it would make no endorsement in the election, despite former President Donald Trump receiving overwhelming support among its rank-and-file in internal polling. Truck driver J.W. Paine, a member of the union, said the unionās leadership was ānot listeningā to its members, who clearly support Trump as their candidate for 2024.
āOur brothers, and thatās what we call each other, brothers, stood up and voted for having Donald Trump as our candidate and it really just saddens me that they are not listening to us,ā Paine told āFox News at Nightā host Trace Gallagher.

Rudy Melendez, a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), said that many rank-and-file members of his union, which represents the backstage crew of Hollywood productions, were supporting the former President.
āIām definitely seeing it in my union,ā Melendez told Gallagher. āI am a member of IATSE⦠a Hollywood labor union. Weāre seeing the rank-and-file in support of Trump. Iām seeing Trump stickers on trucks, on the lot, the guys coming up to me asking me about you know, what are the policies. We just have to remember that families, moms and union laborers and family members have lost so much of the last three and a half years and I think thatās why they are supporting Trump in 2024.ā
Gallagher asked Paine about comments by Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, who criticized union president Sean OāBrien for what she claimed was āquestionable changesā in his behavior after the union announced its neutrality.
āAt the end of the day, we know that when the Teamsters are in trouble, who do they call when they need to make sure that Teamsters pensions are bailed out?ā Ocasio-Cortez said Wednesday, according to The Washington Times.
āYou know what? When the Democrats need help, they call the Teamsters and all the unions, they go out and knock on doors for them,ā Paine said. āWhen the Democrats need help, thatās when they come ask for us⦠We never ask them for anything except allow us to have good jobs.ā
