President Joe Biden is not getting much cover after this debate against former President Donald Trump — even from outlets and commentators who are usually quick to leap to his defense.
On Friday, Sara Haines of ABC’s “The View” said the debate was “really hard to watch” and added, “I think President Biden needs to step down and be replaced… if we want to defeat Donald Trump in November, I absolutely think that.”
She also argued the reason the president’s team wanted such an early debate was to give them time to respond if it went as poorly as Thursday night went.
Haines went on:
“Democrats need to stop spinning the age problem… Over and over Democrats have twisted themselves into a pretzel to say, ‘don’t believe your lying eyes it’s not true.’ And even at this table, we’ve said, ‘Look, Joy’s 81.’ Joy Behar at 81 is not Joe Biden at 81, and that was on full display last night.”
Despite her concerns about Biden’s age, Haines said she would vote for Biden if it does come down to a choice between him and Trump.

Meanwhile, conservative co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said she was “genuinely in shock” watching the debate. And while she noted she has had concerns about Biden’s age, “It was stunningly worse than I expected… Biden’s performance was so bad it eclipsed everything that Donald Trump said.”
